Research

The laboratory is currently investigating two broad, yet interrelated areas addressing pivotal molecular interactions in:

Immunity
Infection

Our program is inter-linked to create a complete systematic study, namely host recognition, responses developed by the pathogen, and drug design to modulate and/or counteract these events. The links above summarises these areas.

Projects:

Infection

The re-emergence of drug-resistant pathogens has led to the need for novel drugs and drug targets. Within the ARC Centre of Excellence in Structural and Functional Microbial Genomics we are using structural biology to investigate specific processes important in the pathogenisis of infectious human and animal diseases. These investigations are focussing on important pathogenic bacteria, which will not only unravel key aspects of microbial physiology and pathology, but will also provide a range of antimicrobial drug targets.
